Kenilworth Castle Trip

Welcome to year 1

Highlights from the Spring Term

We went on a trip to Kenilworth Castle as part of our Theme topic- ‘The Elephant and the Castle’. The children had a superb time and learned lots about the castle. They had to act as historians and use their imagination to picture the castle as it was when it was first built. The children found the arrow slits and where the well, toilet, stairs, fireplaces and portcullis would have been. We were extremely impressed with the behaviour of all the children and were proud to have them as ambassadors of Hearsall Primary School.

Our P.E. days are Monday and Friday. We strongly suggest that children keep their P.E. kit in school to avoid forgetting it. We will then remind children to take their P.E. kits home each half-term holiday for washing.

Reading books will be sent home daily. All children should try and read at home at least three times per week – please could you record this in their reading diary. It is important that reading books are in school every day so that we can hear the children read and change their books when necessary. The high-frequency purse words will continue to be changed on a regular basis. Once your child has learned to read their purse words they will concentrate on learning to spell them accurately.
