HIGHLIGHTS FROM SPRING TERM
Our themes from the Spring term were Magic, Dinosaurs, Spring. The children enjoyed dressing as witches, wizards and fairies and were inspired to write some potion recipes and spells to cast on the adults. They poured out lots of gruesome concoctions and compared amounts of magic beans to develop their measuring skills. When dinosaurs came to reception the children loved reading the ‘What if a dinosaur’ books by Ruth Symons to help them learn lots of fun dinosaur facts. Masterpieces were made from Hamma Beads and the children developed their understanding of the world when they became parents to seven new additions to Reception class – the chicks!
Our family assembly was all about some very special people… our Mums! We delivered some specially prepared songs and a play written especially for our assembly – Saturday Night at the Mummy Stomp. Our portraits of our Mums were very well received.
The mud kitchen came to the Reception outdoor area! The children have loved getting muddy and creative during their role-play in the mud kitchen and have spent hours cooking away outside.
Our trip to Hatton Adventure World
We had a wonderful day out at Hatton. It was not only educational but also great fun for the children to get firsthand experience of handling and feeding a variety of animals – goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits and guinea pigs. A great day was had by all! A big thank you to all of our lovely Reception parents that came along with us on the day, we couldn’t have done it without you.
Our Reception curriculum keeps us busy and active everyday but we will be changing into our P.E kits now on a Friday so that we can enjoy other physical activities and practice with those tricky buttons! P.E kit is a white t-shirt, black shorts and black pumps. All items need to be named and kept on your child’s peg in a named bag.
Phonics – The children receive weekly phonics homework which allows them to practice the letter sounds and formation of the letters which they have learnt in phonics sessions that week. Please return to school by Wednesday so we can issue the new sounds.
Reading – Every child has 2 reading books to enjoy at home with your support. When you listen to your child read please sign the diary to say you have done so. We ask that children read each book at least twice before requesting a change.
Tricky Words – The small purse contains 5 tricky words which your child needs to learn to read. Please practice them together at home. Once they have learnt these words they will be given 5 new words to learn.
