We have had so much fun with our learning this term. We started back after Christmas by going on a bear hunt. The children loved retelling the story using a story map and through roleplay. We practised using prepositions when we played hide and seek with the Bear’s friends in our woodland and we enjoyed mixing colours until we finally ended up with brown! We also looked at the story of The Snow Queen, which made us think about and use different vocabulary and we were able to explore lots of different textures and talk about how things feel. We learned about different faiths through exploring Chinese New Year and Easter and we are beginning to notice and celebrate differences and similarities. Our theme of vehicles was very popular, especially when we had our own train station in Nursery and then we visited Birmingham Airport together. We finished our term off by looking for signs of Spring both around school and in our local park.
Throughout all our topics the children have used lots of skills in all areas of learning. In maths we have used counting skills and number recognition as well as beginning to understand concepts of more or full and empty, beginning to use money and exploring height. In Literacy we have thought about characters, the structure of a story and how to handle and enjoy books in the school library. We are also beginning to hear sounds and rhymes in words and to use these in our group phonics time. The children are also making great progress in areas of physical development by controlling child scissors to cut paper and holding a pen, pencil or chalks to mark make in many different ways but also through exploring different ways of moving. The children have lots of opportunities to climb, balance, use equipment, catch balls and ride tricycles in our own outside area but also on the school playground and in our hall time.
We love seeing how your children continue their learning at home and are so happy that you can share this with us through the target cards. Please remember that you can always send us a photo on Classdojo and we can print this for your child’s Learning Journal. It is great to have such a happy class of children who clearly love learning.
